The Eye

the eye Playing with large visual metaphor, The Eye combines physical comedy, inventive use of scenic props & machinery, highly visual costume design and site interactions to provide a dynamic performance. The show focuses around a collapsing / expanding set mounted on the back of an eight-tonne truck. The Eye is an adaptation of The Odyssey's tale of The Cyclops, the mythical one-eyed giant who terrorized and devoured sailors landing on his island.

the eye Using the contemporary allegory of 'an invasive current affair TV crew', the visual language of The Eye gradually unfolds from the 'everyday' to the mythic. Before the eyes of the audience, truck drivers turn heroes, crew become rowers and hoist the sails of tall-ships, rolling out onto the arid Australian landscape.

The Cyclops flounders in a frothing rage - the eye ablaze, swinging from its sinewed counterlever. Oars slip into rowlocks on the container and the crew manoevre the eight - tonner. A spume of sea erupts beside the truck as the Cyclops catapults havoc amongst the ship's departure. The truck stalls. Barking commands from the bow and the crew winch in the boom. A dry dusty wind fills the spinnaker and the ship draws slowly down the drive...

"The Eye is a sensorial feast... lavish and stunning. Engines roar, flames blaze..."
